A SPACE FOR GIRLS

WHAT’S ON

A SPACE FOR GIRLS

Exploring Colour in Our Local Spaces

27 Jan 2026 – 13 Mar 2026

'Colour is fundamental to the way that we understand and interact with the world around us' - Justine Fox

Colour to Make Space for Girls Currently representations of products and places for girls are rendered in a range of pinks and purples but are these the colours that actually attract girls or has this become simply a hackneyed marketing skew? Little open-sourced evidence-based research is readily available for designers working with the urban and public realms, assumptions are made that could easily exacerbate the lack of engagement by girls – even in spaces designed for them. With this is mind, we will facilitate a series of workshops to ask teenage girls directly about the meaning of colour for them.
